Old Dominion University First to Earn Dual NSA Cyber, AI Validation
Old Dominion University (ODU), an R1 research institution, became the first university to receive dual validation from the National Security Agency (NSA) for its innovative cyber and artificial intelligence programs on December 15, 2025. This achievement establishes a new national benchmark in cybersecurity education.
The validation encompasses ODU's Bachelor of Science in Cybersecurity with a Major in Artificial Intelligence for Cybersecurity, which received the AICyber validation. Additionally, the Master of Science in Cybersecurity with a concentration in AI Security was validated for the SecureAI program. These programs maintain validation through 2030.
Old Dominion University, located in Norfolk, Virginia, is the sole institution in Virginia and one of only ten nationwide to hold all three of NSA's Centers of Academic Excellence (CAE) designations.
The University's School of Cybersecurity, established in 2015, has significantly expanded its enrollment to approximately 1,700 students this fall semester and has graduated over 1,500 alumni. The school offers various undergraduate and graduate programs, including accelerated pathways and certificates, to prepare students for leadership roles.
Old Dominion University fosters partnerships with national agencies and companies, including local military bases, the National Security Agency, and Amazon. These collaborations provide students with internship, research, and certification opportunities, equipping graduates for the cybersecurity industry.
