HPE Stock Faces Pressure From Memory Price Surge After Analyst Downgrade
Hewlett Packard Enterprise (NYSE:HPE) shares dropped following a Morgan Stanley downgrade. Concerns over rising memory prices drove the action.
The downgrade cited a potential pricing supercycle for NAND and DRAM, which could impact original equipment manufacturer (OEM) margins.
Morgan Stanley downgraded HPE from overweight to equal weight, leading to an approximate 7% decline in the stock's value.
Despite this pressure, HPE's stock price stood at $20.99, reflecting a 2.31% increase.
The company's market capitalization was approximately $27.69 billion.
In contrast, Citigroup upgraded Hewlett Packard Enterprise to Positive from Buy, with the stock priced at $20.52.
This upgrade suggests a differing view on the company's prospects despite broader industry headwinds.
The memory price surge affected other hardware companies. Dell Technologies saw its rating cut due to higher DRAM exposure and thinner margins.
HP Inc and Lenovo shares also experienced declines.
Morgan Stanley noted Pure Storage and Apple are better positioned. This is due to stronger software mixes and differentiated business models.
